About Us
History
The Northwest Council on Climate Change was created in November 1996
after a presentation by the Hon. Timothy Wirth, the United States
Undersecretary of State for Global Affairs at an event sponsored by the
Climate Action Network (CAN)

at the University of Washington in Seattle.
The Co-Founders
were Blair Henry, a Seattle business attorney and mediator, Dr. Richard
Gammon, a Professor of Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry and Oceanography
at the University
of Washington, and Jack Cullen, and engineer with the Washington State
Department of Natural Resources.
Dozens of exploratory, bi-weekly dinner meetings were held in Seattle.
Key attendees included the Honorable Margaret Pageler, President,
Seattle City Council, the Honorable Jay Inslee, Member of Congress, The
Honorable Karen Fraser, Washington State Senate, The Honorable Jennifer
Belcher, Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands, Bill Nye "The
Science Guy", Denis Hayes, Bullitt Foundation, as well as many of our
local, nationally recognized scientists including Drs. Ed Miles, Conway
Leovy, Ed Sarachik and Bob Fleagle.
Within six months, Dr. Miles was asked by The White House to host one
the country's first regional White House Conferences on Climate Change
in 1997 pursuant to Congressional mandate. Dr. Miles sought the
assistance of The Northwest Council on Climate Change. From there The
Council has participated in no less than:

Dr. Blair Henry,

a policymaker’s guide to solving global warming in time - key statistics
- a critical goal - what works and what won’t
acknowledged by the Hon. John Turner,
lead U.S. State Department negotiator on climate change as "The best
summary of climate change I've ever seen."
Dr. Henry researched the potential for development of very large-scale
wind energy projects in the Midwestern United States. He has made over
160 presentations to over 16,000 attendees, attended the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP-3 in Kyoto Kyoto Japan in
1997 and has organized climate change conferences for the Office of the
President of the United States.
Dr. Henry is a former Professor, Earth System Science Institute,
University of North Dakota, a former Adjunct Professor of
Entrepreneurship, College of Business and Public Administration,
University of North Dakota and the Co-Founder & Executive Director of
the North Dakota Chapter of
Physicians for Social Responsibility.
